# Inbound email

> Add replies to tickets, and open new tickets from email.

> [!NOTE]
>
> **Who:** Admins\
> **Where:** Settings → Notifications → Inbound email

## Before you start

* Connect [outbound email](https://desk.quibtech.com/docs/admin/notifications/outbound-email.md).
* Get your inbound address from whoever set up this help desk.

## Steps

**1. Turn on Receive email at the inbound address**

Then select **Save**.

**2. Choose what happens to new email**

With **Open a new ticket from email that is not a reply** on, new email opens a ticket. With it off, only replies are accepted.

**3. Set the Reply-to address**

Under **Outbound email**, enter your inbound address.

**4. Send a test**

Email the inbound address from an outside address, then reply to the notification.

> [!TIP]
>
> The email opens a ticket, and your reply appears on it.

## How email is handled

| Email | What happens |
| - | - |
| A reply to a notification | Added to the ticket. |
| A reply to a resolved or closed ticket | Reopens the ticket. |
| From a domain listed on a client | The ticket is assigned to that client. |
| From someone without an account | Opens a ticket. It moves to their account when they get one. |
| Auto-replies and bounces | Ignored, and listed in Email activity. |
